Dear Friends in Christ,
As many already know, our head maintenance man, Les Pope, will be retiring near the end of May. For 27 years, (1989- the year St. Agnes was built) Les has attended to the practical needs of our 10-acre parish complex here on Amos Avenue. Whether mowing lawns or prepping the HVAC systems or meeting with suppliers or changing endless light bulbs(!) or cleaning or seeing in advance things that need to be fixed and myriad other matters, "The Pope!" has done it with grace, and know-how and patience. In a word, Les has simply been excellent! We have been blessed here at St. Agnes.
As Les enters a richly deserved retirement, he wishes his departure to be kept simple. This needs to be respected. On Thursday, May 12, during the 8:15 am Mass, our school wishes to honor Les for the gift he has been these many years. All are welcome to this Mass! Let Les know of your appreciation these next weeks. If there are any greetings or cards that you would like to offer, you're welcome to bring them to the parish or school offices and we will see to it he receives them.
The job of head maintenance here at St. Agnes is a big one, an important one. For the past couple of weeks, our new head of maintenance, Matt Lael, has been shadowing Les, learning the "in's" and "out's" of our complex. Keep Matt in prayer as well as our other two maintenance/custodial care personnel, Gary Clark and Matt Fitzgerald. Their work behind the scenes is no small thing!
